P32M of fake cigarettes seized in Bulacan raid

Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized some 32 million pesos of fake cigarettes during a raid on a Bulacan warehouse on Sunday evening, October 3.

CIDG Major General Albert Ignatius Ferro said the operation also resulted in the arrest of four people, including Chinese businessman Zeng Qiangjian, 42.

Lin Shanxiong, 48, was also caught; John Bejay Agujar, 25; and Rodolfo Brosas, 25.

Ferro said the operation stemmed from a confirmed intelligence report on the location of suspected fake cigarettes in Balagtas, Bulacan. A raid was then planned which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Over 1,000 cartons of various brands of cigarettes were confiscated for a total of 32,305,000 P.

Besides smuggling, the authorities also recovered an Isuzu elf truck with license plate no. CBJ 6630.

The suspects will face charges of alleged s. 189 of the Revised Penal Code, violation of RA 7394 (Consumer Law of the Philippines), RA 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) and RA 1937 (Law Revising and Codifying the Tariff and Customs Law of Philippines).
