Dhanush gets relief in VIP smoking case – The New Indian Express

CHENNAI: Madras HC on Monday exempted movie star Dhanush from appearing in the Eighteenth Metropolitan Magistrates Court of Saidapet in a case against him for smoking scenes at Velai Illa Pattadhari without legal warnings. Judge N Sathish Kumar adjourned the case to August 10.

The complaint, alleging breaches of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertising and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003, was brought by the Deputy Director (Research) of the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Dhanush argued the case under Article 190 (1) (a) and 200 CRPC read with Article 5 of the law applied to advertisements of suppliers, manufacturers, of tobacco products.
