Florida man arrested after DNA matches cigarette pack found in robbery victim’s car

DESTIN, Fla. (WRKG) — Okaloosa County deputies arrested a third suspect this week in a January 2021 armed robbery.

Cornelius Donaldson of Fort Walton Beach is charged with robbing a man Jan. 13, 2021, inside the Palms of Destin condominiums. Yohanna Dwyer and Elijah Jones also face charges in this case.

According to the arrest report, Donaldson called the victim and told him to meet at the condo. Upon arrival, Donaldson robbed the victim at gunpoint. The victim said Donaldson and Jones took his keys, wallet, cellphone and money while pointing guns at him.

The three suspects then drove to the victim’s car carrying a pink-handled pistol and a yellow toolbox containing state-licensed medical marijuana, according to the arrest report. The victim said Donaldson let the victim drive away in his car and threatened to hurt his family if he told police what happened.

The OCSO said the victim identified Donaldson from a series of photos. Investigators tested DNA found on a pack of cigarettes in the victim’s car. This DNA came back a match for Donaldson. Deputies arrested Donaldson on June 22, 2022. Donaldson faces adult kidnapping, armed robbery, grand larceny and other charges.
