New York, March 25, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Foundation for a Smoke-Free World is encouraged by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) action to clear certain electronic health system products for sale. distribution of nicotine (ENDS) in the United States. This is a progressive step towards providing the nation’s 34 million adult smokers with a tool to quit combustible cigarettes.
The FDA made this decision after considering evidence showing that marketing the ENDS products under review can help adult smokers move away from combustible cigarettes and reduce their risk of exposure to harmful toxins from cigarettes. In fact, the FDA has concluded that “marketing of the products is appropriate for the protection of public health.”
The FDA review process is rigorous and considered the international gold standard. The agency’s clearance of several ENDS products allows us to be optimistic about future access to effective harm reduction tools for adults if companies bring them to market in a safe and targeted way.
